Elinore Cohen
Las Vegas, Nevada
Elinoreʼs transition to yoga began with over twenty years of movement and dance experience in ballet, lyrical, modern and jazz. Elinore has danced with several regional and state ballet companies, including the Joffrey Ballet. After several injuries and health concerns ended her dancing career she followed her interest in teacher education, eventually earning a Masters in Human Development while teaching pre-k and kindergarten at Pacific Oaks in Pasadena. Her interest in education and the whole person: mind, body, breath and spirit led her to yoga and during her 13 year practice, which began at age 17 she explored everything from Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara and everything in between. Falling in love with vinyasa flow, crediting it to her desire to begin and complete the YogaWorks 200 and 300 hour teacher trainings in Santa Monica, California (500hr. E-RYT). Her mentorships with Annie Carpenter, Jasmine Lieb, Lisa Walford, Julie Kleinman, and Heather Seiniger (pre/post natal), and a wide variety of others deepened her entire “holistic” approach to teaching. Furthering her fire for yoga and education, Elinore completed the Yoga Ed. Teacher training and went on to teach at the programs flagship facility, The Accelerated School in South Central LA (a charter school within the LAUSD school system) to children in grades K-12. Uniting her love of yoga, children and community outreach she created “Yoga4Change™” with the intention of facilitating yoga to communities, children and youth without access to, or means to receive the practice of yoga in daily life – with a greater mission of bringing yoga to ALL children and youth in all communities (local & nationwide). Elinore Cohen's unique, captivating, lively and energetic style of yoga instruction created a forum for her to showcase her biomechanical, dynamic, alignment driven Vinyasa “Refining the Flow™” teachings both publicly and privately to the greater Los Angeles area* (*www.ElinoreCohenYoga.com “Live with Intention™”). Through the course of building her public classes and private clientele, Elinore opened up the doors to her own studio, Urban Lily Yoga “Blossom where youʼre grounded™” in Sherman Oaks, California where she teaches both group classes, workshops and gives private instruction to such Hollywood luminaries as Clare Kramer and Eliza Dushku, among others. Known for her biomechanical, alignment driven teachings, Elinore is sought after for taking her students practices to a higher level through her “Pelvic Floor Flow™” method and “Refining the Flow™” styles of teaching, which have given her students depth of pose, accessibility and “flight” in arm balances and inversions. Elinoreʼs classes can be experienced at her studio, Urban Lily Yoga or on the web at www.YogaVibes.com and www.YogiChocolate.com. In addition to proudly serving as ambassador for Lululemon, she serves as ambassador for www.ActiveWearUSA.com, and Manduka. Elinore frequently models for YoginiWear and Body Language Sportswear, and is Body Language Sportswearʼs Yoga Partner, currently launching their “Urban Yoga Goddess & Yoga Love” campaigns. Sheʼs been featured in two of photographer Jason Goldʼs Chakra Art Calendars, and in Robert Sturmanʼs Poetry of the Gods collection including his book: Impressions of Yoga and Yoga Visions iPhone app. Elinore is currently working on “Urban Yogini Project™” which is the collaborative fusion of YOGA, the female form, fashion, design, architecture and “the city of Los Angeles” featuring the photography of Nicholas J. Reid. Her upcoming book collaboration with client and friend, Clare Kramer titled: OM Mamma – A Pre & Post Natal Yoga Journey is set to debut in February 2011. Elinoreʼs “Yoga for the dancer™” workshops have allowed her to teach dancers across the nation the healing benefits of yoga affording them equanimity of strength and equal balance of flexibility. Through Urban Lily Yoga Elinore seeks to “facilitate greater collective consciousness™”, filling the need for a community-based yoga experience that offers “teachers who TEACH™” rather than simply facilitating. Her hope is that Urban Lily serves the needs of all in a welcoming, approachable and holistic environment where everyone can “blossom where theyʼre grounded™”. I LOVE Teaching YOGA... Join me ;) http://www.ElinoreCohenYoga.com Yoga practice is like life... Each circumstance in which we find ourselves is like a pose. Some poses are hard to hold, others are pleasant. It is how we hold the pose that determines whether or not we will suffer or grow. And whether or not we will listen to the drama of the ego or the wisdom of the spirit. ~Elinore xoxoxo -We are kept from the experience of Spirit because our inner world is cluttered with past traumas....As we begin to clear away this clutter, the energy of divine light and love begins to flow through our beings. "The art of teaching is tolerance. Humbleness is the art of learning." ~B.K.S. Iyengar
