With master’s degrees in music from Oakland University, and education from Butler University, Ellen Bowen is a music director at Grosse Pointe Community Theatre in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Ellen Bowen joined the theater after working as a choir director and music teacher for nearly four decades. Over the course of her career, she held positions with several academic institutions, including Macomb Community College and Grosse Pointe South High School.

While serving as the director of choir activities and music theater at Grosse Pointe South, Ellen Bowen developed one of the top choral music programs in the country. With her at the helm, the school’s choir won four national grand champion titles and performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra 67 times. The choir also regularly participated in choral festivals and toured Europe nearly every other year. In addition to leading the choir at Grosse Pointe South, Ms. Bowen led all of the school’s musicals as the producer, pit orchestra director, and music director.

Ellen Bowen left the school in 2012 and worked briefly at Los Alamitos High School in California before accepting her current position at Grosse Pointe Community Theatre. Her recent professional accomplishments include winning 4 Clarence Awards for Outstanding Music and Orchestra Director in 2015 and 2016.
