Emily Seay

Professional School Counselor Emily Seay imbues her work at Prospect Heights Middle School with a wealth of professional experience. Throughout the 2008-2009 academic year, Ms. Seay worked as a School Counseling Intern at Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia. As an intern, Emily Seay developed her counseling skills; advising students on a range of social and academic issues and aiding them in preparing and applying for college. She also assisted in creating a Peer-Mediation Program, the first of its kind at the school, for 11th grade students. Emily Seay joined Locust Grove Middle School as a Professional School Counselor in August of 2009. In addition to counseling students in grades five through eight, Ms. Seay taught a seventh grade class on study skills, conflict resolution, and career opportunities. Since the fall of 2010, Emily Seay has worked with students at Prospect Heights, a middle school serving sixth to eighth grade students in Orange, Virginia. Ms. Seay’s strong background in her field has allowed her to embrace a wide array of responsibilities. Working both individually and in small groups, Emily Seay counsels all of the school’s roughly 500 students. She writes 504 plans for students with special needs, ensuring that all students receive the learning accommodations and modifications necessary to thrive in an educational setting. As Attendance Officer, Emily Seay tracks daily attendance, communicates with the School and with parents to verify absences, and develops student attendance plans when necessary. In her role as Site Testing Coordinator at Prospect Heights, Emily Seay facilitates school-wide Standards of Learning tests. Ms. Seay also introduces seventh and eighth grade students to the Virginia Education Wizard, a comprehensive web portal focusing on college and career opportunities. Finally, as Chair of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Committee, Emily Seay strives to improve peer relationships and create a safer, more respectful school environment.
