Eric Becoats

As interim executive director for Distinctive Schools, Dr. Eric Becoats builds on diverse experience in strategic and pedagogical planning. He entered the field of education in the early 1990s with a background in economics, having earned a bachelor of science in accounting and a master of science in finance. Hired as director of planning and student placement for Baltimore City Public Schools in 1992, Dr. Eric Becoats went on to create policy as a leader in multiple districts. He stands out as an advocate for strategic decisions that support student success, to which end he has developed scorecard metrics for balanced assessment and implemented school improvement training at the district level.

Also experienced as a speaker and presenter, Dr. Eric Becoats has discussed strategic planning in the education system before professional conferences and committee meetings up and down the East Coast. He focuses on the building of partnerships within the community as well as strategies to reduce achievement gaps and support the success of minority populations.

Dr. Beacoats has further shared his insights as a featured guest on several local radio and television programs, including NPR and WGHP-FOX8. Honored by the National Association of Black School Educators as Superintendent of the Year for 2012, he continues to use his knowledge of education and organizational direction to advance student achievement.
