Eric Mccurdy
Executive Director in Seattle, Washington
In 2010, Eric moved to Seattle to become the Coordinator of Athletics for Seattle Public Schools. He was promoted twice within his first four years of employment to his current position of Executive Director of Athletics. He accepted the role having served for seven years as director of operations and academics for the men's basketball team at the University of Houston. In this role he worked under Head Coach Tom Penders, who has led four teams in NCAA tournament competition. Eric McCurdy assisted Coach Penders in guiding the team to its highest total of game wins in 20 years, its first NCAA tournament in 18 years, and its 2010 win at the Conference USA Tournament Championship.
Eric McCurdy now leverages his commitment to athletic excellence to support K-12 athletes, thanks to the mentorship and assistance of experienced and dedicated professionals in Seattle. In 2017, he became the first athletic director in Washington's history to reorganize its football league to emphasize fair competition and safety. Following this effort, three of Seattle's four league teams reached the state semifinals.
Committed to providing opportunities for all student athletes, Mr. McCurdy has played a key role in the creation of the Seattle Unified Soccer League, a project that the Seattle Public Schools has undertaken with the Seattle Sounders and the Special Olympics. The league allows students with and without intellectual disabilities to play together in interscholastic competition, thus providing opportunities that many students would not otherwise be able to experience.
