Evans Kidero
NAIROBI COUNTY
Born in the Nairobi slums in 1957, Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero went through the Kenyan education system in a journey that culminated in his graduation in 1983 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Nairobi. Realizing that his career path was mainly in corporate management, he in 1990 added a Masters of Business Administration, awarded by the United States International University, to his professional/academic qualifications. These qualifications, his personal abilities and the hand of God moulded him for an illustrious career in corporate management spanning a period of 28 years. The highlights of this career include: 4 years at Warner Lambert, 12 years at SmithKline Beecham Healthcare International, 2 years at the helm of Nation Media Group, and (most recently) 10 years in the stewardship of Mumias Sugar Company. It is from Mumias that Dr. Kidero recently resigned to pursue a political career in Nairobi county governorship. From this enviable career in a competitive corporate environment, Dr. Kidero has acquired leadership skills that make him a suitable candidate for a job that requires experience, competence and caring. While the experience is seen in the number of years in managerial positions, the competence becomes visible when we take note of the success story that characterizes his career at the top of each of the big organizations he headed. The caring leadership explains the welfare arrangements he put in place for the staff of these organizations. His is a story of someone who starts off in a disadvantaged environment but through dedication and a strong desire to achieve set goals overcomes life’s bottlenecks to become one of Kenya’s most respected leaders.
