At the age of 4, I moved to Jamaica with my siblings, where I attended Stella Maris Preparatory School in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Thereafter I went to Calabar High School the prominent all-male secondary school in Kingston, Jamaica, Today, it is considered one of the finest schools in the country. I moved back to the USA at the age of 15.
I received my certification in paralegal studies from BMCC. I am a proud CUNY graduate of Brooklyn College, where I studied Business, Management and Finance and minor in Business Law.
With more than 5 years of experience in government and community relations, Everton A. Smith, is the current Budget and Legislative Director for New York City Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel, who represents the 41st council district, covering the area of Ocean Hill, Brownsville, Bedford Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, and East Flatbush. I previously worked for former Council Member Inez E. Dickens, as a councilmanic aide
As the Budget Director for the Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel who chair’s Public Housing I’ve helped fight for more funding for New York Housing Hosing Authority (NYCHA) from the administration to for capital upgrades as federally-funded housing programs has experienced elimination and deep cuts which have significant impact funding to New York City. Instrumental in funding for the ongoing operating support for the remaining 14 seniors centers operated by NYCHA, which now is baselined in the city budget.
As the Council Member Legislative Director, I have drafted a few headliner legislation from the media around the incident that happen to Jazmine Headey, water tanks, sexual harassment and lead to name a few.
