The recipient of a bachelor's degree in social work from San Francisco State University, Father John Jimenez later completed studies in science and secondary education before embarking on a career as a teacher. Father John Jimenez taught science at Balboa High School and Havenscourt Middle School in the early 1990s and, in 1992, began his priest formation by pursuing a master of divinity at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, California.

Father Jimenez has since held associate pastor roles at St. Pius Church, Our Lady of the Visitacion Church and School, and St. Peter Church. Concurrently, he maintained his passion for teaching and served as an Algebra teacher at East Oakland School for the Arts and St. Peter School. He has also completed missionary work in Kenya and served six years as a visiting chaplain to San Francisco General Hospital. He served as lead pastor at St. Charles Church and School from 2014 to 2017, and presently serves as chaplain, as well as a religion and math teacher, at Archbishop Riordan High School.
