Florence Okehie
A resident of Columbia Maryland, I earned a B.A. in History and a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Morgan State University Baltimore Maryland. I also hold a second Master of Science degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. In 2003, I earned an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Transition Planning from Johns Hopkins University. I also completed 12 Graduate level credits in Family Counseling, at Loyola College, Baltimore Maryland between 1995 and 1997.
I currently work for Baltimore County Public Schools as a MSDE Advanced Professional Certificate Special Educator and a Behavior and Learning Support Resource staff. I also hold an Administrator 1 Certificate. With a passion for working with individuals with special needs, I am a strong advocate with an extensive background of special education process, crisis intervention, functional behavior analysis, and development of individualized behavior and education plans. I have proven leadership skills focused on managing, supervising, training, mentoring and providing structure to other professionals on issues related to behavior management, compliance, and intervention for students with special needs. I also have an extensive background on developing and implementing special programs for at risk and special needs students as well as racially and ethnically diverse populations. Most importantly, I am an effective communicator with excellent people skills, and an ability to work as part of a team or alone.
Currently, I am a doctoral student at Morgan State University Higher Education Leadership Program. My career goal is to secure a leadership or administrative position in the Higher Education setting with job requirements related to Academic Affairs and Student Services, Developmental Education and Student Success, Workforce Development, and Partnering with K-12 School districts, and State agencies, to implement transition programs that will help more High School students to become college ready.
