"Floyd" - The Play
"Floyd" - The Play
Combining raffish charm and contagious enthusiasm Keith Floyd was a household name throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, producing 19 eponymous TV series and writing more than 20 cookbooks to accompany them.
Famous for his ad-libbing to his film crew and always seen with a drink in hand he was a roguish charmer; an image which he lived up to off camera with mailbags of female attention and a global life style.
But behind the mask there was a lonely man that no amount of whisky could console. Four failed marriages, two rarely seen children, bankruptcy and self-enforced exile brought the other side of fame sharply into focus.
This new play looks at the highs and lows of a remarkable man who lived life to the full, and took TV cookery out of the studio and into the real world. From his first televised slurps as a young restaurateur in Bristol, through the height of his fame watched by millions across the world, to the his final years living in France, we share his journey along with some of the people he met and befriended along the way…
“Floyd” is a play about following your dreams and having passion and belief. It is a moving tribute to a man who saw both sides of the cult of celebrity.
