Grey is a Ghanaian rap artist, he does hip life, hip hop and afro pop music, Grey's music are primarily reflections of passion and energy, social and economic realities of his personal experiences and life in general. He is like an outlet or voice for the victims of some realities of life, such as, love, hate, poverty and riches.

Originally born as Grey nana karikari antwi he was born in Accra in the early 1980's to parents madam Akua oye, who was a caterer in Accra, and Mr. Kofi Asare Karikari, who has been unknown to grey all his life. This also forms a greater part of his inspirations in music, as the quest to see his father remains a part of his aspirations. Grey comes from Akuapim -Adukrom in the eastern region of Ghana.

He has lived his entire life in the capital; Accra, specifically Osu, Labone, Cantonment and Madina. He has tasted a considerable village life in Nankese and adukrom, all in the eastern region of Ghana.

He has always loved to be a rap star since childhood, mimicking and imitating international rap stars such as public enemy, rakim, krs one and Busta rhymes. However, he actually discovered how well he could rap in senior high school days, he joined most entertainment shows, rapping on stage with the stage name virux, and he became a big name in the rap and entertainment scene among the Eastern region high schools. He developed great rap skills back in Nifa senior high school, and powered his vocal delivery with deep lyrical content, a more metaphoric and poetic stance, something he is well noted for till date.

He skillfully combines brilliant twi lyrics and excellent captivating hip hop beats with influences from highlife and other native rhythms', creating a blend that can only be described as hip life, a Ghanaian version of hip hop and Afro pop. His exploits in senior high school contributed largely to his rare talent and rise to fame as a unique rap star. It was not surprising at all, his command and master over rap craft earned him an invitation from Reggie Rockstone Osei, the "god father" of hip life music in Ghana, and this was during a music and rap session.
