My top five strengths from the StrengthsQuest quiz in order are competition, strategic, achiever, discipline, and individualization. Although I identify will all five strengths, I most identify with achiever. Basically, this strength pushes you to achieve something everyday, or else you are left with a feeling of emptiness or inadequacy. I always feel compelled to achieve, whether it is a goal of some sort or complete some sort of task. This strength directly impacts all areas of my life. It impacts my academic life because it pushes me to work hard and achieve good grades. It impacts my personal life in relation to Irish dancing. Because I feel the need to achieve, it pushes me to work hard and achieve the awards that I want to get.
Another activity we completed was the dream job assignment. For this assignment, we were to find a job online that we would consider to be a "dream job." I found a job listing for an early childhood teacher. This is considered my dream job because this is what I am majoring in (early childhood education) and I am really excited and passionate about pursuing this major. As an extension, I am also really excited and passionate about becoming a teacher and working with young kids. This assignment helped me to focus on what I would consider my dream job to be, which is being a teacher. Also, it taught me where to look when the time comes for me to find a job after graduation. Obviously, this aspect will help me in the future with finding my illustrious "dream job."
Another assignment we completed was "Lessons from a First-Year Buckeye." What we did for this assignment was write out five lessons that we learned from living out one semester of college and that we would tell future buckeyes. The five lessons that I learned and would pass down are:
1.) Try to get along with your roommate and work out complications
2.) Do not procrastinate for homework/tests
3.) Do not purchase all of your textbooks new
4.) Get involved in clubs/activities
5.) Don't get overwhelmed by the looming future
This assignment gave me a chance to reflect back on my first semester here at OSU and think of what I probably should have done differently. This will help me in the future because all of these lessons can apply to future semesters at OSU to help me succeed.
