Pauyet: another story about the spoon and the fork This story refers to a different one – it talks about the story of the spoon and the fork in a period in which the handicraft and handiwork are difficult to find. In the past we used to enjoy and be proud when our entire cutlery of pure silver was made by the hands of women and men -who later were substituted for machines. In the same way today we enjoy the art that converts forks and spoons into warriors, centaurs, satyrs, old cars from the 30´s or antique bicycles, they get pleasure for their corporal static metal and marble shapes, from a web site with a rare name plenty of magic Pauyet. According to the Yoruba tradition Pauyet is an African word that means a hand with a silver walking stick , attributed to Obatalá – the goddess who owns this metal. The Pauyet group was founded by Víctor Rafael Blanco Montaño in 1998, in Ciego de Ávila , Cuba . Their craftsmanship was characterized by small sculptures, using as the only raw material the cutlery (spoons, forks, knives); besides, they also developed a new line in silver jewelry in which the black coral and abulón shell (a Californian shell) were predominant materials used in their fine art. The craft Pauyet has developed during twelve years makes their pieces being well-known in Cuba and abroad, they have contributed with valuable prizes to the applied arts of the territory. The genius Pauyet has to model and shape the metal makes this group win the acknowledgement truly artists deserve -beyond any vanity- achieved in the splendor of a decade of uninterrupted labor. This group is constituted as one of the most representative exponents of silver craftsmanship in our island. Without a doubt Pauyet has become a required consult for those who are interested in the Cuban arts of XXI century.
