For technical reasons and in line with our future expansion. Allpostcodes within the zonesNW1 to EC5 will be increased from six to sevencharacters.

If you presently have a sixcharactercode, simply add aGto the end of the code. For example, if your presentpostcodecode is NW1 186 simply add a G to the end. Thus your new postcode is NW1 186G. Here’s another example, EC5 837 changes to EC5 837G. It’s that simple.

If your address is within the SE6 Galway postal district zone, these changes do not apply to you.

ABOUT US

A new postal code system for Galway has recently been introduced by Galway Postcode. It is a seven character alphanumeric code with three letters designating the geographical area, e.g. NW1, NE2, SW3, SW4, EC5 and SE6 followed by three or more numbers that will identify the street, road, apartment block or housing estate.
In addition industrial estates, major city infrastructure and building/services of major significance have been assigned their own unique code.

How It Works

Galway is simply divided into six separate compass point and zones numbered 1 to 6 - NW1, NE2, SW3, SW4, EC5 and SE6.
The River Corrib, like the Thames in London, neatly divides the city into east and west respectively. Roads then provide the means to subdivide the east and west section into three separate postal zones.
For example, Galway City West is divided into NW1 ( North-West 1 ) , SW3 ( South-West 3 ) and SW4 ( South-West 4).
Galway City East is divided into NE2 ( North-East 2), EC5 ( East-Central 5) and SE6 ( South-East 6 ).
