Garrett Julian House

Durham

Garrett Julian House is an accomplished competitive swimmer and professional lifeguard. He began swimming at a young age, and at age 8, he started competing for Duke Aquatics. That year, he achieved a record-setting time of 49.81 in the 50-meter breaststroke in the 8-and-under boys division. Two years later, he competed in the same event and set a new record time of 42.54. Garrett Julian House also achieved a second record at the same competition, with a time of 1:31:16 in the 100-meter breaststroke event.

During high school, he continued competitive swimming and achieved additional event records. In 2011, he attained a record time of 2:20.81 in the 200-meter breaststroke event in the 15-to-16-year-old division. He followed this performance with a strong showing of 2:09.94 in the 200-meter individual medley in 2012.

In 2010, House began work as a lifeguard at the Hollow Rock Racquet & Swim Club. He was responsible for watching over young children with limited swimming skills and keeping the pool deck clean. In 2013, he graduated from the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and continued his competitive swimming career at Louisiana State University.
