Gregg "3G" Sheldon
Teacher in Colorado Springs, Colorado
Classically educated in a secondary preparatory school in CT, and having a middle class upbringing I quickly learned I did not conform to many of the prep school norms, mainly the desire for elitism. My drive to help people was became evident to myself and the people around me even. After attaining my BA (‘04) from The University of Rhode Island, I found employment as a Life Skills Coach at a Developmentally Disabled adult group home in Boston and after a year or so was promoted to Program Director. This position satisfied my aspirations to help people working with this adult population however it consisted mostly maintaining their life style and when I tried to increase their quality of life I was met with restraints, with both policy and financial. Soon a life change brought me back home to Western Mass and a job a residential facility management job with troubled youth to my door step to which I jumped in with both feet (‘07). A few months into the job I devoted my spare time to constructing a proposal for an automotive program which included 12 weeks of classes, met twice weekly a classroom and a practicum utilizing my Subaru and tools. The Vice president dismissed the proposal and so I left the organization. Having seen that I possess a unique ability to respect and be respected by today’s youth I took the lunge into attaining my career dream job.... an Automotive Vocational Instructor. My father was a gear head and thus its been in my blood since birth. So I enrolled in a 12 month Automotive Vocational Program. Upon completion (‘12) I bounced around a dealership and several independent shops however I wanted to work for a company I believed in Subaru ( had owned mine for 6 years) however unable to get into my local dealer due to low turn over rates, I applied for every Subaru Technician opening in a 1500 mile radius of Massachusetts within two weeks I was packed and headed to Sheboygan WI (’14) where after moving 1100 miles away from my home I my struggles were over or so I thought.... After spending a few months in Sheboygan with minimal amounts of work I realized it was an intriguing place and learned some beneficial lessons after almost a year it was time for me to once again pull up the stakes from Wisconsin. Where to next? Having vacationed in Colorado several times and friends here I contacted four Colorado Subaru dealerships and a couple weeks later I was packed and voyaging to Colorado Springs. Within a month of my arrival (March 2015)
