Hampton Creek
Hampton Creek is a food technology company focused on transforming the global food system through research and innovation. In 2011, CEO Josh Tetrick founded the firm on the belief that the current food environment is in dire need of change, and that the business sector is capable of driving this change. By studying the molecular structures of thousands of plants from around the world, Hampton Creek has discovered how to create healthier, more sustainable foods. It strives to create products that are both delicious and affordable, making healthy foods more accessible for the global consumer market.
Just Mayo leads Hampton Creek’s line of dairy-free products. The mayonnaise alternative features a fresh, bright taste that won over participants in a Serious Eats taste test, beating out several conventional mayonnaise brands in the process. Hampton Creek followed Just Mayo with Just Cookie Dough and partnered with food services company Compass Group to develop ready-to-bake Just Cookies for cafes and cafeterias at university campuses, museums, and corporate offices across the country. In 2015 alone, the presence of Hampton Creek’s sustainable foods on college campuses including Yale, Rutgers, Cornell, UC Berkeley, and others has saved an estimated 1,500 acres of land and over 121,000 swimming pools’ worth of water.
Hampton Creek has drawn praise from prominent figures in both the technology and culinary sectors, including Bill Gates and Andrew Zimmern. Mr. Gates highlighted the firm’s accomplishments in a 2013 article exploring the future of food, and the company earned inclusion in the World Economic Forum’s 2015 list of Technology Pioneers. Hampton Creek also appeared on CNBC’s 2015 Disruptor 50, an annual ranking of private companies that stand to revolutionize their respective industries.
