Laura began the site as she herself was a victim of cyber bullying many times. Laura understands the pain these acts can cause others, because she suffered the same pain herself. Laura made it her passion to help people deal with online defamation, slander and bullying. Her plan is to raise awareness and to create a media platform which gives people who and victimized by sites such as thedirty.com the chance to explain their side of the story. Thepositiveonly.com is a place where credible information is placed, unlike that of sites similar to thedirty.com, where people who are full of hate create lies to hurt another human. Laura had the chance to stoop to this level many times, but decided to use the energy to ultimately help others.

Laura's activism, truth and glamour made her an icon and earned her an enduring popularity as well as an unprecedented public scrutiny, exacerbated by her tumultuous private life. Laura was also owner to Valente Hair & Co in La Jolla until December of 2018, when the business failed due to her business partner Thomas Nowland, who abandoned the business and his responsibility to the business just months after the opening. Leaving Laura in financial dispair, she tried as hard as she could to keep the business afloat until she decided to close its doors in 2018. The business was a learning experience for Laura, and although it didn't work out, she decided to cut her losses and not give up. The site also offers a free 15 min phone call for those suffering from depression, abuse, sexual abuse, online defamation, bullying and more. Laura takes some of the calls herself. The site also aligns people suffering from cyber bullying with access to non profit health organizations for therapy, life coaches and clinical therapists. The site also promotes lawyers to represent in defamation cases as well as provides a reputation defense program specifically designed by Laura Valente herself.
