The Impresario
Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Producer in Chicago, Illinois, United States
For more than two decades, Mike Davis has used dance, theatre, and cabaret to build spaces where performance becomes community. Beginning as a young dance educator, Mike started teaching choreography for high school musical productions before expanding into studios, professional dance programs, and performance companies throughout Chicago and beyond.
Over the years, Mike has taught and choreographed for musical theatre productions, ballroom studios, competitive dance programs, adult training programs, and community workshops. His experience includes teaching at Joel Hall Dance Center, serving as a professional instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studios, directing and choreographing for Roc Star Studio, judging dance competitions, coaching performers, and mentoring hundreds of dancers and entertainers across multiple generations.
As an impresario, Mike is known for blending theatrical storytelling with movement, music, fashion, and audience connection. His productions celebrate individuality while honoring the rich traditions of cabaret, revue, and Black performance history.
In 2025, Mike introduced the Impresario Technique, a performance methodology designed to train artists beyond choreography. The technique explores stage presence, theatrical composition, audience engagement, lip-sync performance, character development, hosting, and the art of commanding a room and helping performers become complete entertainers rather than simply dancers.
Building on that vision, Mike launched the Honey Pure Cabaret Lab in 2026, an open workshop series that welcomed emerging and experienced performers into the creative process behind Honey Pure Cabaret. Through weekly labs and movement workshops, artists developed confidence, storytelling skills, performance quality, and collaborative artistry while contributing to the evolution of Mike’s growing cabaret universe.
Today, Mike continues producing immersive theatrical experiences through Theatrical Rendition Cabaret Theatre, creating work that bridges contemporary pop culture with the elegance of classic cabaret. Every workshop, rehearsal, and performance serves one purpose: preparing artists to create unforgettable experiences for audiences.
Participants in the Impresario Technique and Honey Pure Cabaret Lab are now helping shape Mike’s next original production, No King Cabaret, opening in February 2027. The production will represent the next chapter of his artistic vision.
Whether directing a cast, teaching a workshop, or stepping onto the stage as host, Mike Davis continues to champion a new generation of performers while reimagining what cabaret can be for today’s audiences.
