It's not that hard to generate a crapload of mediocre data these days. And it's not that hard to run a map-reduce job on it to distill that crapload into a steaming pile of summary statistics.
What's hard is to do math right -- to get creative with your data while still maintaining that anal retentive attitude that got you stuck with a math degree in the first place.
