Jabulani Dlamini
I was a train driver for 8 years and I managed health, safety and environment for one of the big passenger rail operator in South Africa. My job right now is to clean illegal dumping sites together with the community and convert them to communal vegetable gardens to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry and what cannot be consumed is sold for cash. The waste that comes from the illegal dumping sites is sorted and sold to buy back centres to diversify the income revenue. To date 12 sites have been rehabilitated and 150 people live on the fresh produce of the vegetable gardens. We are planning to scale and expand the project by processing solid, non recyclable municipal waste to energy such as electricity, water, bio fuels and bricks. This is to enable us to create more quality and sustainable jobs whilst keeping the environment clean and ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry like Mother Teressa said "if you cant feed a hundred people, then feed just one"
