James P. Small Memorial park is a famous baseball field with a significant background. Built in 1912, the park was Jacksonville’s primary baseball field and hosted numerous local teams. It was also frequently used as a base for various Major League teams’ spring training. During the time of the Negro American League, the park hosted Jacksonville’s only Negro League team—the Jacksonville Red Caps.

This baseball park is the last remaining historic ballpark in the city of Jacksonville. Given its rich history and well-maintained conditions, James P. Small Memorial park was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. The park also features a Negro League Museum where you can learn about the history of the park and its use during the Negro League era. This museum is a great place for all baseball and history enthusiasts.

San Jose Episcopal church offers Episcopal religious services in the San Jose region of Jacksonville. Designed using a Mediterranean Revival architectural style, the church is both charming and remarkable. The church was built in 1925 and was initially called the San Jose Estates Administration Building. However, following the collapse of real estate the property changed hands several times.

Eventually, Jesse DuPont acquired the building and allowed it to be used to worship services by the Episcopal Church. It was during this time that the building was renamed Grace Chapel. The church then underwent another name change in 1971 and finally became the San Jose Episcopal Church. In 1985, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the San Jose Administration Building. Today the church hosts a day school for children and remains an operating parish.
