James David Beck

James is an accomplished Business Analyst with 17 years of experience designing innovative solutions to business problems. Throughout his career James’ focus has always been on serving the needs of the business users he supports. He does this by getting to know the end users personally so that he can bring that knowledge to bear during requirements elicitation and prioritization as well as solution design. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and United Airlines (UA) Joint Quality Review Team determined that UA’s Training Records did not satisfy FAA regulations. James reviewed the report and met directly with training department users to identify gaps between the existing system and FAA regulations. James identified requirements relating to system limitations, update tracking, and digital signatures. He designed modifications to system tables, flight attendant data files, down-line system retention and use, and user displays. The update resulted in a 1,750% increase in training types per flight attendant, 793% increase in available training types, and system certification by the FAA.James was assigned to the project combining UA and Continental (CO) airline’s System of Record (SoR) for flight attendant training and qualifications. During this project he identified data fields to be extracted from the UA system and loaded into the CO system. James designed the messaging structure to keep the systems in synch as the UA system continued to be used for scheduling purposes. He analyzed loaded data and devised a process for resolving discrepancies.Over the course of his career James has been involved in projects from small (< 1 month) to large (> 3 years). No matter the size of the project he has focused on bringing value to the organization. He has done this by translating user’s stated needs into implementable requirements. James acts like he is truly one with the end business users and prioritizes their goals to deliver the greatest ROI possible.
