James Lowey
I have been working in the entertainment industry since 2007.
I began working as a technician at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where I quickly learned to calmly deal with unpredictable, off-script situations - and unreliable technology!
I studied Stage Management and Technical Theatre from 2009 - 2011 at ALRA, and I am currently doing an additional year of studying Production for Live Events and Television at University of the Arts London.
I have extensive technical and production experience. I often accompany Pappy's as Production Technician on their tour dates, previous examples include Latitude festival 2010 and 2011. I am the Technical Manager of the Festival of the Spoken Nerd at the New Red Lion Theatre in Angel. I provided technical management of two shows at Cheltenham Science Festival 2011. I worked as an ASM on The Institute, a comedy horror promenade play, and returned as Stage Manager of its sequel The Insti2ute.
I have broad experience using a variety of sound and lighting equipment, including a range of lighting consoles, sound mixing desks, and moving fixtures. I'm also experienced in Sound Design: sourcing and editing sound effects, designing and creating soundscapes, and designing and building appropriate systems: extending this experience with Orbital's Sound Fundamentals for Theatre course.
I have a great deal of experience in IT and computing; thorough knowledge of editing software and experience using Final Cut Studio and Audacity; and been trained in VectorWorks. I've created and managed professional websites; for four years I designed and ran the global website of Australia's most popular comedian and television presenter. I previously wrote an essay about the use of Social Media at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
I have a keen interest in electronics and robotics. I've used the Arduino open-source circuit board to build several projects including an electronic musical instrument based on a theremin, using an infrared distance sensor.
