Jay R. Lieberman

Dr. Jay R. Lieberman chairs the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California, where he is actively engaged in clinical care and research and education. Dr Lieberman is an internationally renowned total joint replacement surgeon. Dr. Jay R. Lieberman also is a leader in the development of regional gene therapy to enhance bone repair. In recognition of his scientific accomplishments, he earned the Marshall Urist Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society and the Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award from the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr Lieberman also teaches and mentors residents and medical students.

Before accepting his current position, Dr. Jay R. Lieberman worked as director of the New England Musculoskeletal Institute and as professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center. While there, he successfully grew the department by recruiting new faculty, establishing satellite offices and enhancing both the basic science and clinical research units. His efforts helped the institute to become recognized regionally for the quality of its musculoskeletal care.
