As an art conservator, Jeremy Casson combines his practical skills with an extensive knowledge of art history, science, architecture and changing fashions and lifestyles to develop a comprehensive understanding of artworks and restore them sensitively and appropriately. While he previously worked as an art conservator for several public institutions, Jeremy now runs his own practice.

Jeremy’s role includes collecting information about how an artwork was made, determining what may be causing environmental damage to the work and creating a plan to prevent further deterioration. He then undertakes specialist conversation techniques and practices to preserve an artwork’s current condition and determines the most appropriate conditions in which to handle, store and display the piece. This could include ensuring a piece of wooden art is stored in a temperature-controlled case or that harsh lights aren’t placed directly above a painting.

Jeremy is a committed foodie and loves to sample new cuisines and delicacies whenever he travels to a new destination. He and his family like to visit local restaurants when at home to support local small businesses and give back to their community. Jeremy and his family also enjoy horse racing and try to attend at least one major event a year. When abroad, Jeremy always makes a beeline for art galleries, museums and exhibitions; the Musee d’Orsay, the Getty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Rijksmuseum are just a few of his favourite institutions.

When he’s not conserving art, Jeremy takes as many opportunities as possible to enjoy his favourite pastimes: pottery, painting watercolours of natural surroundings and sketching buildings that boast interesting architecture.
