John C. Chiu, MD, stands out as a highly regarded key contributor to the field of endoscopic spinal surgery. He has authored thousands of articles as well as 45 textbook chapters on minimally invasive spinal techniques, and has presented his work before neurosurgical congresses across the world. President of the California Spine Institute Medical Center and founding chair of the American Academy of Minimally Invasive Spinal Medicine and Surgery (AAMISMS), John C. Chiu, MD, also serves as president of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery (ISMISS). He holds adjunct and faculty positions at several prominent universities, including Ain Shams University in Egypt and the Hunan Medical University of TCM in China.
Board-certified since 1975, John C. Chiu, MD, earned a second certification in minimally invasive spinal surgery in 1999. He has received faculty appointments at hospitals and medical centers worldwide, including the Hunan Medical University of TCM and The World Class 307 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army in China. Co-chair of minimally invasive spine surgery conferences in China and Turkey, he has earned numerous awards including the International Conference on Spinal Surgery's Gold Medallion Award and a US presidential letter of recognition.
Also an award-winning martial artist, John C. Chiu, MD, has received such elite honors as the International Martial Arts Living Legend Award. A black belt in three disciplines, Dr. Chiu distinguished himself as an invited keynote speaker and humanitarian award recipient at an annual meeting of the Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame.
