John Garvey
A resident of Londonderry, NH, John Garvey advises start-ups in the technology and life-science sectors as a Partner at the Boston offices of one of the nation's largest law firms, K&L Gates, LLP. With these ventures, he counsels them on creating, protecting, and monetizing proprietary assets and property. John Garvey also represents clients in the fields of software, nanotech, high-tech, and functional foods/nutraceuticals.
Mr. Garvey concentrates on select areas of the law, namely technology transfer, patent interference, SEC compliance, and trademarks. Responsible for putting together several licensing agreements, he also has orchestrated the private offerings of an immunology firm, drug delivery company, and mobile technology enterprise.
As a testament to his success, the Londonderry, NH, resident has earned accolades from the local and legal communities. Named to The Boston Business Journal's 40 Under 40 in 2006, he also was recognized as a Massachusetts SuperLawyers Rising Star for two years running. The award, accorded to attorneys 40 and younger, honors those nominated by their peers and vetted through independent research.
John Garvey regularly addresses intellectual property issues before legal audiences and in print. Of late, he delivered the talk, "Post Licensing Issues: What Happens After the License is Signed," at the AUTM Eastern Regional Meeting. Likewise, a paper he co-authored, "Patentability of Gene Sequences OK for Now," appeared in the Medical Research Law & Policy Report, a publication of the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.
Mr. Garvey holds a law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center and a doctorate degree in molecular and cell biology from Brandeis University. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Fairfield University. Away from the office, Mr. Garvey enjoys relaxing in his Londonderry, NH, home.
