John Vawter

John Vawter has served as principal at Capstone Collegiate Communities, LLC, in Birmingham, Alabama, since 2012. During his time in this position, he has successfully overseen the completion of 15 off-campus communities throughout the nation, alongside additional projects in development and entitlements phases in Austin, Texas, East Lansing Michigan, Flagstaff, Arizona, and other locations. Prior to taking on his current role, John Vawter functioned as executive vice president of Capstone Development, Corp., also in Birmingham. Capstone’s name has represented the highest standard of student housing development for nearly three decades.

Mr. Vawter studied business at Alexander City Community College. He later spent three years as a development associate at PolarBek, specializing in site selection of real estate development opportunities for student housing. His efforts in this role resulted in the completion of seven student housing communities at colleges throughout the southeastern United States. He has received several honors and awards over the course of his career, including numerous awards from Student Housing Business magazine.
