The Jolly Sailor pub was built sometime between the late 16th and middle of the 17th century allegedly from wrecked ship’s timbers the pub having a reputation as a smuggler’s haunt.
Today the pub is an excellent base for walkers, sailors, fisherman and birdwatchers, painters, photographers or those simply in search of solitude and the sound of the sea under a huge Suffolk sky.
From the garden and orchard, are views of the marshes and saltings, located next to the working quay on the River Ore, opposite Orford Ness and close to the marshy bird sanctuary Havergate Island, where avocets breed.
