Musician, university, and Trombone in Athens GA
My Music Journey started before I even born. My parents met in the BC marching band, went on to become a principal and band director. I was lucky to receive lot of musical opportunities as a child that my parents made me do. Piano/ general music classes, choosing trumpet in 3rd grade, going to summer camps and such. Fun fact, when I was very young, my parents thought I was by far the least musically talented of the 3 kids and begrudgingly put me in music classes just to be fair between the three kids. I ended up being the kid that went to music school, so they made a great decision.
Music was always fun for me, but when I went into the high school the topic of choosing a major came up, and I couldn't imagine doing anything other than music, but the part that didn't dawn on me until much later than it should've was how hard I need to work to make that happen. The parts of high school where I was getting by on talent are so painful looking back. I was good, but my results at all states were very disappointing to me, and it took too long for me to do something about it. I was finally fed up and during my junior-senior years, I really started practicing. I knew that music was really meant for me because even though practicing was really hard, I fell in love with the process, with the work.
The photo I linked in my bio is a picture of me standing in front of the stage at Boston symphony hall where I performed with the All-state orchestra as the second trombone. I climbed a mountain that day, but at the top, I saw much taller and steeper peaks in the distance. I still have so far to go, but I'm falling more in love with the practice every day.
