A resident of Albany, New York, Joseph Nicolla brings 40 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge in research and planning, design, and financing to his role as a partner with Columbia Development Companies (CDC), which he owns. Under Joseph Nicolla’s guidance, CDC has developed more than 9 million square feet of commercial real estate space with a value in excess of $1.5 billion.

CDC is particularly active in the health care sector, where its portfolio includes the AMC Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Facility, Crystal Run Healthcare Monroe, and Community Care Physicians Medical Arts Complex Building, all of which are in New York.

Passionate about the Albany community, Joseph Nicolla has directed the redevelopment efforts of entire neighborhoods as part of the city’s revitalization plans. Of note, he oversaw the repurposing of Wellington Row and the former DeWitt Clinton Hotel into a facility that houses a new bank headquarters, the Renaissance Albany Hotel, and a commercial office. Mr. Nicolla was awarded the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District’s James M. DiNapoli Award in 2015 for these efforts.

Before launching CDC in 1988, Joseph Nicolla held project manager roles with The Edgewater Companies and The Pyramid Companies. He earned a BS in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
