Born on the island of Kauai, 1972.

Kai McBride works in the discipline of photographers like Walker Evans, Helen Levitt, and Edward Weston, using his camera to make lyrical photographic essays from the world around him. Examples can be seen at kaimcbride.com.

He teaches Photo II & Digital Documentary Photography and manages the photography department at Columbia University in the City of New York. In 2009, he and the photographer Thomas Roma finished building the PSYCLOPS, the medium format camera he works with today.

Mr. McBride lives in Brooklyn where he shares his apartment with his darkroom.
