Dr Karien Lubbe

As the Chief Executive Officer of Continuing Education for Africa (CEFA), I have a proud history of achievement in the social development sector of social welfare and community development training and qualifications. From my BA (Social Work) in 1979, my MA in 1984 – and my 1996 Doctorate at Stellenbosch (with a Dissertation on Continuing Education in Social Work), I have been developing a powerful and ever growing recognition of the key role played by social development professionals in South Africa.

I offer vast experience within all three bands of the South African education system. Against my background as lecturer and later part of the management team of a higher education entity, I have gained extensive experience in academic management and -administration. A main result from these experiences was recognition of the need for work integrated learning (WIL).

As a result the Diploma course in Social Development was compiled in such a way that it could be offered both residentially and in the workplace. During 1999, under my leadership and in conjunction with the former Department of Development Studies at UNISA a degree in Community Development was introduced.
