Kasey Radney

Time seemed to move in slow motion as the soccer ball curved past the goalie's outstretched hands and found the back of the net. The crowd erupted, and all I could hear was the spectators screaming "Happy Birthday" to me from the stands. My name is Kasey Jamas Radney, and soccer is my passion. Unlike many people who are satisfied with merely watching soccer on TV, I enjoy the rush of getting out and playing official games with my friends and teammates. I began playing the game when I was ten, and I always trained as a defensive player. My position at center-back was to stop the ball and distribute it to my teammates on offense. I played this position throughout my entire school career. Eventually I got to the point where I craved the chance to try and score goals. During my senior year season I was finally given the opportunity, as my coach let me play striker, an offensive position. The game was against our rival team and it just so happened to be my birthday. My teammates selflessly gave the ball to me time and time again to ensure I would score. Finally, in the last few minutes of the game I was able to find the back of the net with the ball. The goal became the first of many and that game is one of my most memorable moments in my soccer career. It defined my perseverance and tenacity as a person, as well as being the embodiment of my hard work. I went on to score 6 more goals, and assist several more that season. Since then, I have become a predominantly offensive player, and I work to improve myself every week.

Soccer is my passion and I play it for many reasons. I use it as a great way to stay in shape, it is a good way to meet people and make friends, and I love the competitiveness of the game. Since, graduating high school, I have played on two indoor soccer teams and an Intramural team with my hall-mates.
