Kathy Malatesta
Teacher and Photographer in the United States
I am an educator with more than 15 years of experience in classrooms ranging from city schools to suburban districts and from elementary through high school and adult learners. I am currently the Teacher Librarian at Brookfield High School in Brookfield, CT. My work includes collaborating with classroom and special area teachers to design engaging projects that satisfy not only curricular goals and information literacy standards but also student interests. In addition, I design and present professional development workshops throughout the year. Topics have included technology integration, research strategies, and curriculum alignment. Two colleagues and I are the founding co-chairs of the Greater Danbury School Librarian Roundtable. I served on the Faculty Advisory Board at ACES Alternative Route to Certification for Library Media Specialists. My first cadre of students are now cross endorsed and many have found their first positions in this rewarding field. Technology is central to my role as an educator; recent projects include piloting Chromebooks and introducing Google Apps for Education. Bringing personal passions to teaching enhances the experience for the teacher and students. As such, I have served as the Yearbook and Photography Club adviser. As an active social media participant, I was invited by NASA to attend the final Space Shuttle launch. Since the launch, I have obtained certification from NASA to bring original lunar and meteorite samples to schools.
