Kathy Walter-Mack

A leader in higher education administration, Kathy Walter-Mack builds on a strategic as well as a legal background. She began her career as an associate attorney in the private sector, having graduated with a juris doctor from DePaul University School of Law. Named department chair of paralegal studies at Brown Mackie College in 1990, Kathy Walter-Mack distinguished herself as the lead of an effort toward program accreditation.
In 1991, Ms. Walter-Mack expanded her breadth of experience into the public school sector as executive director of the Desegregation Monitoring Committee in Kansas City, Missouri. She later went on to serve Boyd Gaming as director of compliance, in which role she improved access to opportunities for female- and minority-owned companies. She then became the Desegregation Counsel for the Kansas City Public Schools, and was later named as general counsel. In this role, Kathy Walter-Mack oversaw internal staff and outside firms while facilitating the resolution of a long-standing desegregation matter.
After a return to the private sector as president of Focus Consulting, Kathy Walter-Mack joined Metropolitan Community College as director of urban affairs and inclusion. Highly successful in this role, she became chief of staff to the college's chancellor in 2010. In 2013, she accepted an additional role as associate vice chancellor of human resources, in which position she has introduced a new onboarding and training program.
