Cat Pwiti aka Kitty Cat, founder of BurncityQueenz (Melbourne’s first official Dancehall dance group), and Jungle Cityprojects has been managing, coordinating, choreographing, dancing, performing,and supporting countless projects, events, and performing artists for almost adecade. She has been dancing for as long as she can remember and from the ageof seven was determine to grow up to dance. She has travelled all around theworld discovering different dance styles and ways of expression through movement,starting off in a variety of Hip Hop styles such as Poppin and Breaking, but itwasn’t until taking a Dancehall class in London that she knew she finally foundher soul as a dancer. Since then her passion and love for Hip Hop, andDancehall culture has been her driving force and over the years has blessed herwith the opportunity to work alongside amazing people and project. Somehighlights of her dance journey include; featuring in music videos such as ‘Freak’by Drumsound and Bassline Smith – while being 4 months pregnant; and ‘Shakethat Thing’ by Yung Warriors; Performing and facilitating workshops atfestivals and events around Australia; supporting legendary Dancehall artistsincluding Cecile, Demarco, Guppy Ranks, Leftside and Elephant Man; and deliveringthe first annual True Jamaican Dancehall Tour with Dancehall pioneer LatonyaStyle (Jamaica) – which has now developed into an annual program bringingJamaican Dancers to our shores. In 2011Cat gave birth to her son, Cristiano and although motherhood has become hernumber one priority – instead of slowing down with her dance career, Cat cameback with more determination and passion than ever, and in 2014 her Dancehalldream came true when she finally took the journey to Jamaica and became the firstAustralian in history to enter the International Dancehall Queen competition.“It was like finally finding that place in the world that makes sense, wherepeople value dance, culture and creativity as a way of life” says Cat. In 2015Cat’s is carrying a tour of Australian dancers to Jamaican for the first ‘TrueJamaican Dancehall Culture Tour’ to Jamaica as the first annually tour – givingmore Australian dancers the opportunity to learn firsthand from the dancers whohave inspired us all over the years, and continue growing Dancehall culture anddance in Australia as authentically as possible.
