Dr. Madhu Kumar has an extensive background in molecular biology and cancer research, including a fellowship at the London Research Institute. His research there focused on characterizing the use of circulating tumor DNA in the pre-imaging diagnosis of solid cancers. Another area of research centered on GATA2 and the role it plays in survival of Ras-driven lung cancer. During his time with the Institute, Dr. Madhu Kumar received the EMBO Long-Term Fellowship and the Human Frontier Science Program Long-Term Fellowship, as well as the 2012 Hardiman-Redon Prize.

Earlier, while earning his BS in biochemistry and chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Kumar undertook research on neck and head cancer and DNA copy number changes. He also looked at BRAF mutations as they relate to lung cancer and melanoma. Dr. Madhu Kumar completed his biology PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a recipient of the Teresa Keng Graduate Teaching Prize.

Today, in addition to performing research, Dr. Madhu Kumar mentors youth with the White Plains Youth Bureau and assists the wrongfully convicted with the New England Innocence Project.
