When i first came to academy it was a much smaller school. The grades were all less than 40 people. Then, as progress inevitably happens, grades slowly grew and the culture became larger, with people from all over the globe. Chinese, Italian and Slovakian students joined the academy family. Besides more students joining the school, the school atmosphere itself also changed as the years went on. The campus grew larger to adapt to the larger student body. A larger patio/deck area was added, and extra classrooms were made. However, even with all these change,s the tight knit culture remained a constant.

I would say that Academy has given me a leg up in being prepared for college. Not only are the classes at a caliber that prepares me for college, but the recognition the name "Academy at the Lakes" gets is awesome for college. Another aspect of academy that is different is the plethora of expansive opportunities. The amount of clubs is unparalleled and all of them are more than happy to welcome one more member. Personally, I felt compelled to join 6 clubs my first year on campus.

One of my favorite academy traditions is the retreat. Early in the year, before the onset stresses of high school kick in, there is a retreat to a nearby camp area. All of the high school is welcome and encouraged to join in with the festivities there. These include group activities, bonding events, and tons of free time. It's a good way to start off the year and certainly makes everyone closer.
