Always upholding rights of working poor people and the plight of women and children in poverty. Improving the opportunities for the betterment of oppressed people everywhere. Work serving others who find themselves in the same circumstances I had lived, ie: domestic violence, being on welfare with 4 children, police brutality and becoming homeless, Testified before the NY Commission on the Status of Women Hearings on Domestic Violence of impact it had on my life as a child, wife, mother, neighbor, community resident and human service provider. To support others in their struggles for independence and self-reliance; I was Chair of Coalition for Welfare Rights NYC. I also traveled the country and spoke at colleges regarding the treatment of poorest in our nation. As a result, I was appointed Board Member of the National Welfare Rights Union representing New York State in collaborations with national organizations challenging Government policies affecting our families. Appeared on NBC-TV as spokesperson for the poor in "A Tribute to the Working Poor in America", spoke on Montell Williams, Bertrice Berry, Rolanda Watts, etc. always speaking of the perspective and struggles imposed on the poor. Took part in the documentary "Americas War on Poverty" who produced "Eye On The Prize" as well as testified for NYS Task Force on Welfare Reform and hearings and seminars. As an organizer in the community, I brought speakers to address issues in the community, ie: housing, food stamps, and human rights to improve the quality of life for all. Researching events and community activities to assist in the enlightenment, education and support to our communities. Linking National Resources to our local residents, churches, elected officials and non profits to improve the quality of our community's lives.
