Laura McGill
Laura D. McGill has been working with youth for years now and today more than ever, they need motivation. With the recent acts of bullying, flash mobs and low self esteem that has become present in our youth today, her desire to help our youth has grown much stronger.
As a young woman growing up on the north side of Philadelphia in an immediate family of four, Laura D. McGill always knew something was different about her. Laura began to really sense her difference from everyone else throughout high school at Simon Gratz. Shortly after her graduation, she began teaching at Shepherd’s Christian Academy where she found the piece to her puzzle and that was her genuine love and passion for young people.
With the help of her mentors, Laura began to realize that she was “Not Made to Fit In”. Continuing to set herself apart from what was common, she graduated from the Municipal Police Academy in 2009 and is now an active Police Officer. Throughout her teenage years, Laura found it hard to find herself and where she fit in and as a result wants to use her experiences, both personally and professionally, to reach out to and impart in today’s youth: a sense of self-worth, morale, future conscious thinking and overall love. Her goal is to pass down the same tools that helped her become the successful woman she is today and her vehicle to accomplish this goal is through motivational speaking.
To bring this goal to fruition, Laura D. McGill decided to begin motivational speaking in 2011 for individuals who dare to be different, step out of the box and move forward. Her goal is to help youth, who were not made to fit in, reach their full potential by reaching beyond the realm of possibilities. Laura has already begun to blaze the trail throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding areas by touching the lives of young people at West Chester University’s Jump Start Program, Discovery Charter School, Youth Detention Centers and the Devereux Foundation in only a short time. She has consistently left young people rethinking their future with the tools and thought provoking ways to make choices she shares during her time with them.
Laura lives by the motto: ChangED people…Change People!
