Born from a self identified need to connect with the world into which my daughters would soon springboard and as a primary/elementary school teacher and administrator: in the space of 2 years I have moved from a non-user of mobile phones and SMS (always said technology would eventually catch up to me) to being able to hold a conversation around augmented learning, in a blended classroom environment, involving the workflow of app app app, construct a pedagogial framework in Prezi and debate the pros and cons of designing a webpage in html5 via drupal with bootstrap. I have well and truly expanded my horizons on every web 2.0 front (member of 15 networks and counting....) and am afloat in ubiquity. I'm an early years teacher at heart, who has a philosophical crush on Sir Ken Robinson's mind, a few issues with over assessment and the over intellectualising of k-7 subject matter (pitching too high and killing the love of learning) and a belief in the 8C's of 21st Century Learning as the way to refocus the purpose of education as being - what the student wants to achieve. Provide the academic basics I say, mix in hands on and real life experiences, set project based tasks (tackle contemporary issues that mean something to the learner) as part of varied and self selected subject matter and have a great time!!!! When I'm not getting my web based fix, I am a mother of 3 lively lasses, who keep things interesting and wife to a long suffering, golf loving lad from Western Queensland.
