Loris Jones-Randolph

Brooklyn, NY

My name is Loris Jones-Randolph and I am a graduate student at New York University. I study Persuasion and Politics in the Media, Culture, and Communication department at the Steinhardt School. I'm interested in researching and analyzing how social media creates and aides social movements across the globe. I also enjoy researching how social media affects the global political economy by acting as a citizen tool to circumvent the dominant public sphere. With this information I would like to assist groups and organizations in achieving change.

My current research revolves around the cultural coding of Blacks in America, highlighting the criminalization of recent black victims such as Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, and Jonathan Ferrell. This process of criminalization of the black body is becoming more and more problematic in our society.

My work is my passion. I'm heavily involved with student government at NYU and hope to continue that to a career in politics or in an NGO.
