Major D. Hammett, II is a respected Independence, Missouri, entrepreneur who has led the restaurant card industry, since the early 1990s. Working with thousands of elementary schools and hundreds of school districts across America, Major Hammett has introduced K8 savings cards that motivate student achievement while enabling pubic school districts to raise needed funds.
Major Hammett began his professional life in the banking sphere in 1989, while retaining a passion for education handed down from his mother, who was a lifelong public school educator. Realizing that school districts were always scrambling to meet budget requirements, he leveraged his financial expertise in creating a pilot program for a single district.
Mr. Hammett’s concept was a card that functioned much like a credit card, to be used at for savings at participating local restaurants and entertainment establishments. Students who meet academic performance goals earn points that generate rewards from the card. In the first year of operations alone, more than 4,000 cards were sold, which generated gross sales exceeding $40,000. Annual sales through K8 savings cards presently total more than $50 million.
Major D. Hammett, II enjoys family in his free time and is involved in a variety of church activities that give back to those in the in Independence, Missouri, area. He has been involved in several Rotary clubs as well as in the Greater Blue Springs Community Foundation.
