Margaret Loughren

Currently attending Western Washington University (WWU), Margaret Loughren graduated with honors from Gig Harbor High School (GHHS) in Gig Harbor, Washington. She focused her studies at GHHS on English, handled a course load that included five AP classes, and earned initiation into the National Honor Society. In her first semester at WWU, Margaret Loughren achieved President’s List honors with grades in the top-10 percent of her class. Interested in a career as a college mental-health counselor, Loughren plans to complete a major in psychology and then pursue graduate studies.

While attending GHHS, Margaret Loughren engaged in diverse philanthropic activities benefiting the Gig Harbor community. She volunteered at St. Anthony Hospital in the summer of 2013 and helped maintain the office, transmit faxes, and deliver correspondence. At Kopachuck Middle School, Loughren helped grade papers, develop lesson plans, and facilitate students’ academic progress as an assistant teacher and participant in the tutoring program. She also served as vice president of the GHHS chapter of HIV/AIDS support and awareness group REACH/WAYS Club.

An avid hiker, Margaret Loughren traverses the paths at Sehome Hill Arboretum adjacent to the WWU campus. She also travels to hiking destinations in the Pacific Northwest, including Mount Baker and Mount Rainier in the Cascade Range. In her free time, Loughren enjoys doing Zumba and Pilates, knitting to alleviate stress, and reading Kurt Vonnegut and F. Scott Fitzgerald novels.
