MARILY MONDEJAR

I am the founding president of the Filipina Women's Network (FWN), a national, nonprofit organization for women of Philippine ancestry. Under my leadership, I grew FWN from 50 members to over 1,800 in 3 years and now have a nationwide e-list of almost 10,000 members. I also helped develop a coalition of organizations to address the high incidence of domestic violence in the Filipino community with an annual Filipinas Against Violence awareness campaign. In 2009, we expanded our outreach to include the Asian community. My involvement in politics deepened this year as I encouraged and supported Filipina candidates nationwide resulting in 13 winners from a pool of 18 candidates. I will bring my grassroots background, organizational skill sets, bi-cultural voice, and immigrant perspective to support the Democratic Party’s agenda and goals.

I also currently serve as president of the FRIENDS of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women and am an executive board member of Leadership California, among others. I have served on the Justice & Courage Oversight Committee, Sweatfree Advisory Board and completed the Emerge CA political training program in 2006. I am a Filipina immigrant, have lived and worked in San Francisco for more than 20 years and have been an active contributor to community projects in San Francisco's South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood. I completed my college and graduate degrees and post-grad courses with emphasis on leadership and organizational psychology after raising two sons as a single mom, and I am now able to give back to the community. In 2010, I received the Award for Excellence in Civil Rights from the California Asian Pacific Islander Joint Legislative Caucus (nominated by Speaker Pro Tem Fiona Ma).

I ask for your vote. Please vote for me at the June 5th primary elections in San Francisco.

Thank you for your support.
