Marion Malcome

Marion, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois, has dedicated her professional and personal life to effecting change on an individual and community level. Her humble beginnings on the South Side of Chicago coupled with the support of a village that believed in her abilities started Marion on a path grounded in service and destined for success.

Marion received her BS in Psychology with a minor in Afro-American Studies and a Master of Social Work with a concentration in community mental health, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During her time at the UIUC she received extensive training on African-American Psychology and methods of intervention with African-American families. It was at this juncture that Marion embarked on a number of rewarding endeavors to support urban populations and underserved communities.

Marion wears a number of hats to achieve her mission.

Marion is currently the Team Leader for an Intensive Case Management Team at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In this role she provides direct services, leadership and oversight to a team serving adults with chronic mental illnesses who are recidivistic and in need of community-based metal health support. Marion is also a Psychotherapist Affiliate with Urban Balance LLC, a group counseling practice. In this role she provides therapeutic support to adults with varying issues including depression, bipolar disorder, life transitions and cross-cultural issues. In both capacities, Marion provides clinical supervision to Masters level prepared Social Workers and Counselors as well as MSW students.

In alignment with her passions, Marion embarked on a mission to help people help people by founding SydneyMalcome LLC; a consulting company that provides support and expertise to entrepreneurs and developing organizations committed to social and community change. As the Chief-Consultant for SydneyMalcome she assists clients with business plan development, grant writing, board development, personal coaching and program evaluation.

Marion is committed to raising awareness about mental health amongst people of color and preparing professionals to effectively support this same population and appreciate their unique history and needs. She serves as the Co-Chair of the Education Committee of the Mental Health America Junior Board of Directors. She has also addressed many audiences about
