Markell Davidson
Markell Davidson was born to Mildred and Earl Davidson in Houston, Texas on an early morning in May. Up until age 15, Markell would live a normal, happy childhood. In August of 1993, she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease, a lymphomal cancer. Through the rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and many doctors' visits Markell kept a smile on her face. In June of 1993, while attending church with a childhood friend Markell accepted Christ and was baptized. She celebrated her last radiation treatment on her 16th birthday. She has been cured for 12 years. Markell would graduate from high school and go on to graduate from Baylor University with a B.A. in Journalism. While in college one of Markell's mentors told her that, "God has big plans for your life." Unsure of what God had in store for her, she moved to Austin, where the transformation began. An invitation from a sorority sister led her to St James Baptist church, where she became a sister in the Junior Mission. It was at that very moment when God began to mold her into the woman she is today. In January 2004 she became a member of St. James Baptist church in Austin, TX under the leadership of Reverend Dr. B.W. McClendon, Sr. Today, Markell is the Vice President of the Junior Mission. God blessed her with the vision of a mentoring program. In 2005 the vision, the Sister2Sister mentoring program became a reality with the assistance of her sister in Christ, Andrea Montgomery. Today, Andrea and Markell have presented the youth mentoring program D.I.V.A.S to the local and district Junior Women's Association, with the prayer that other missions will birth youth mentoring programs within their churches.
Markell has accepted Christ's calling to share God's word and her story of discovering her own self worth through God's unconditional love. She is prayerful that her testimony will lead to others discovering who they are and whose they are. She believes her favorite scripture, Proverbs 16:9, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps", is the key to her future
