Mary Catherine Hughes
New York City, New York
I'm a Memphis girl, born and raised. My years were full of all girls’ prep school, soccer, swim team, tap, ballet, piano, and choir; if there was an award for after-school activity attendance, I’d have it. But I was just average at all of that stuff... As soon as I landed my first role as the Littlest Angel in my school’s Christmas pageant, I decided to get serious about acting.
I knew I had always been fond of story telling. My parents enacted the “no singing at the table rule” early on. I remember heated discussions about my inability to keep quiet…I just wanted to be heard! Luckily, the theater provided an outlet. I couldn’t keep myself outta there.
I spent my formative years in school and Community Theater, six summers at Stagedoor Manor, and one wonderful summer at the Hollywood Bowl in the LA cast of The Sound of Music starring Melissa Errico, John Schneider, and Marni Nixon. After surviving middle school dances, bench warming at lacrosse, a stint in Driver’s Ed, and senioritis, I made my way to New York City to enroll at NYU. I’m currently finishing a BFA in Musical Theater at the New Studio on Broadway. You can find me in rehearsal, in the kitchen, or preoccupied with Pinterest.
